Metering & Reporting Requirements for Inactive Wells
While Inactive: Provided a well registration form is on file with SABGSA indicating the well is inactive, no meter installation or SABGSA Meter Installation & Calibration Compliance Form are required. However, the well operator must maintain compliance with the criteria below and submit the Inactive Well: Intention of Future Use Form to SABGSA no later than April 1, 2026.
Definition of Inactive:
Well Must Meet ALL Criteria below to be Inactive.
1. The well has NOT produced groundwater for a period of 1 year or more.
2. The well is maintained in a condition that demonstrates Intention of Future Use:
a. The well does not have any defects that would impair water quality.
b. The well has been fitted with a water-tight cover (if the pump has been removed) to prevent the entrance of debris or contamination.
c. The well is clearly marked.
d. The area surrounding the well is clear of brush or debris.
If Well Becomes Active: Prior to re-commencing extraction, a flow meter must be installed and the SABGSA’s Flow Meter Installation & Calibration Compliance Form must be submitted. Requirements outlined on the Active Wells page.
